Burning of the Socks – A Mariner’s Springtime Tradition!
Join us on March 20, 2025, for the 12th annual Burning of the Socks, a quirky maritime tradition and a fundraiser for the South Carolina Maritime Museum!
The tradition began with Captain Bob Turner, who spent his winters working on boats, collecting sawdust, paint, and grime on his socks. On the first day of spring, he tossed them into a fire, raised a beer, and welcomed the warmer days. Today, coastal communities across the country keep the tradition alive—including right here in Georgetown!
Your ticket includes food, drinks, and live entertainment, so come ready to enjoy a great evening. Bring an old pair of socks to burn in the bonfire and a new pair to donate to Friendship Place as we continue our sock donation drive for the fourth year in a row.
Let’s burn, sip, and celebrate together!
